Service · Landscape Architecture & Design
Landscape architecture and design for Chicagoland homes since 1959.
Three generations of landscape architects, designers, and craftsmen — drawing the plan, sourcing the stone, and building the yard you came for.
Overview
The design-build entry
Landscape Architecture & Design is the entry that scopes every other service line — the master plan that names the structures, planting beds, hardscape, lighting, water, and drainage as one document.
For a homeowner with ideas they cannot yet picture, the design phase is the bridge: the site survey captures the yard as it is, the master plan shows how the pieces fit, and the construction documents are what our build crew works from.
What's included
What's included
- · Site survey — measured drawings of the existing yard, drainage, and grade
- · Master plan — scaled site plan showing structures, planting beds, hardscape, and circulation
- · Construction documents — the drawing set our build crew works from
- · Material specifications — named species, named stone, named hardware
- · Phased build schedule when scope warrants it

Our approach
How we think about design
-
Specified to your lot
Plant species selected for Chicagoland zone 5b–6a, soil, and sun on your specific lot — not a catalog template applied at scale.
-
Stone named, not categorized
Stone and masonry specified to material — including Buckingham Rustic Royal Chateau veneer for hardscape walls and hearths where the design calls for it.
-
One firm through install
One firm responsible for the design AND the build — no handoff to a separate contractor between drawing board and finished yard.
How we work
Four steps, no surprises
- Step 01
Consultation
Free, on-site. We walk your yard, listen to how you want to use the space, and answer scope and feasibility questions before a contract enters the conversation.
- Step 02
Design
Paid design phase. Measured site survey, master plan, planting plan, and material spec. The design is the deliverable — yours to keep, build with us or build elsewhere.
- Step 03
Build
Our craftsmen install what we drew. Same firm, same plan, same standards from drawing board to finished yard.
- Step 04
Maintain
Optional ongoing care, April through November, by the same team that built the space — so the planting matures the way the design intended.

Design FAQ
Is the 'free consultation' just a sales pitch?
Fair. Many firms run a consultation hour as a pre-sale. Ours is the on-site walk and the scope conversation — free. The design itself (site survey, master plan, planting plan, material spec) is paid work and yours to keep, whether we build it or you take the plan elsewhere.
We have ideas but cannot picture how they fit our yard.
That gap is exactly what the design phase exists to close. The site survey captures the yard as it is; the master plan shows how the pieces fit before any stone is moved. You see the drawn space before you commit to the built one.
Will you hand us a design and disappear before build?
No. We design AND build. The same firm that draws your plan crews the build, and the same firm offers the seasonal maintenance afterward. The plan you sign off on is the plan our craftsmen install.
Where do you work?
Residential properties across DuPage, Cook, and Will Counties — the same Chicagoland yards Kings has been designing and building since 1959.
